And Then She Saved (a blog i'm reading--and you probably should, too)

i am awed/terrified/inspired by this blog. my spending habits are not out of control. we're not loaded down by debt, and have a reasonable (and not yet overwhelming) amount of stuff.

i so want to challenge my own instant-gratification-y notion that spending money on a little something, whether it be an espresso or a nice piece of cheese or some nail polish, is going to make me *feel* better. i don't want to be enslaved to stuff. i want to live in a way that reflects a freedom--not the right to have whatever i want, but the right to live without it and for my kid(s) to live without it and still be fulfilled and satisfied. i want to hold material possessions loosely and elevate the things that are true and truly important--people! relationships! presence! beauty! creativity! i want the richness of living fully. it is so encouraging to read someone else's well-written account of their experiences with it and to know that it is possible and enriching. i'm not ready for a spending fast of my own to this extent, but i'm willing to take some baby steps.
